Industries
For more than 25 years, NESTEC has delivered proven VOC, HAP, and particulate emission control solutions across a wide range of process industries. Our Smart Solutions approach treats air pollution control as an integral part of total plant design, resulting in systems that meet compliance requirements at the lowest total cost of ownership. Explore our industry experience below.
ASPHALT SHINGLES
Volatile organic compound (VOC) and particulate matter (PM) emissions are emitted from asphalt shingle production. Fiber filters and thermal oxidizers control emissions. NESTEC is experienced in supplying filtration and oxidizer systems for asphalt production.
Automotive
Emissions from impregnation lines, engine casting foundries, engine test facilities, and coating and paint spray booths have been treated by regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) designed to handle high volumetric flowrates. NESTEC has RTO project experience in the U.S., Mexico, South America, and Europe for several major truck and automobile manufacturers.
Bakery
Bakery dryers and ovens emit odors, particulate matter (PM) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Fiber filters, wet scrubbers, wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESPs / WESPs), regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) and/or regenerative catalytic oxidizers (RCOs) control emissions. NESTEC has extensive experience with bakery applications.
BLUE HAZE (VISIBLE EMISSIONS) APPLICATIONS
NESTEC supplies wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESPs) to remove “blue haze” from various industrial processes. These devices are effective at removing submicron, sticky, and combustible particulate matter, including ammonium sulfate fume, sulfuric acid mist, and condensed organics from applications like smoking, drying, and frying.
COATING & PAINTING
Coatings and paints release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during drying in high-temperature ovens. NESTEC designs ducting systems to send these emissions to regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs). To reduce costs, they incorporate heat recovery systems. These solutions are used in industries like coil coating, automotive, and food containers.
COMPOSITES & CARBON FIBERS
Products of composite and carbon-fiber manufacturing processes contain resin formulations that emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) upon mixing, heating, and curing. The NESTEC team has extensive experience in regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) systems to control these emissions.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY PRODUCTION
NMP, an expensive solvent used in lithium-ion battery manufacturing, releases emissions that must be controlled. To recover this costly material, NMP scrubber systems are used to separate it from the emissions stream for future refinement. NESTEC provides these scrubber recovery systems to major North American battery producers.
ETHANOL & BIOFUELS
Ethanol fermentation processes produce volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxide that require thermal oxidation. Regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) are a successful solution for treating emissions from vents and grain dryers, and NESTEC has extensive experience in this area. Additionally, wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESPs) are often used on these dryers to control particulate matter, which protects the RTO’s ceramic heat recovery media from clogging.
Food processing
NESTEC has significant experience in providing emissions control solutions for the food processing industry. They offer wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESPs) and regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) to handle the odor, particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, and blue haze emissions from industrial fryers, dryers, meat smoking, and soy sauce production.
INSULATION MANUFACTURING
Mineral wool and fiberglass insulation manufacturing forming lines and curing ovens emit particulate matter (PM) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). NESTEC has extensive experience with applying regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) and wet electrostatic precipitator (wet ESP / WESP) systems in the insulation manufacturing industry.
METALIZED FILM
Volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions coming from ovens are treated with regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) and concentrator systems. NESTEC is experienced in supplying RTO and concentrator systems for food and beverage containers with several large-scale installations.
MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT
NESTEC has extensive experience treating emissions from municipal sewage wastewater treatment plants. They use wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESPs) and regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) to control odor, particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds from sources like multiple hearth furnaces.
ODOR APPLICATIONS
NESTEC has supplied multiple regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) to treat malodors from food and animal feed processing plants, rendering plants, sewage treatment plants, and flavorings/odorant manufacturing. RTOs are well suited for these applications because of their low operating costs and fuel usage.
OIL & GAS
Pump jacks in the oil fields deal with well-head gases containing sour gas hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and methane. The gases are often burned in a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) to produce steam which creates sulfur dioxide (SO2) and sulfuric acid mist (SO3, H2SO4) emissions. NESTEC has extensive experience with wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESP / WESP), and wet scrubber systems in oil and gas to control these emissions.
PHARMACEUTICAL
Pharmaceutical plant applications include the treatment of various chemical vent streams from mixers and storage tanks, and of exhausts from pill dryers. The latter often contain methylene chloride, which forms hydrochloric acid as a byproduct of oxidation; incorporating wet scrubbers into a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) application is often an indicated solution.
PRINTING & PACKAGING
Gaseous and aerosol particulate emissions come from curing ovens and dryers, from calendaring and fusion operations. NESTEC engineers have extensive experience in capturing and treating emissions from extrusion lines; from web offset, rotogravure, flexographic, and intaglio printing processes; and from embossing, lamination, and film production lines — including design for Permanent Total Enclosure (100 percent capture).
PULP & PAPER
Pulp and paper mills present unique, and difficult materials of construction selection challenges in the application of regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs), wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESPs / WESPs), and wet scrubbers. The NESTEC team is very experienced with power boiler wet ESP systems and RTOs treating non condensable gases (NCGs) in pulp and paper applications.
REFINERY FCCU
Oil refinery fluid catalytic cracking units (FCCUs) emit gases with sulfur dioxide (SO2) and catalyst fines particulate matter (PM). NESTEC has extensive experience with wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESP / WESP), and wet scrubber systems on refinery FCCUs.
SEMICONDUCTOR FAB
Semiconductor fabs emit gases with hydrogen fluoride (HF), heavy metals, particulate matter (PM), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Wet scrubbers, wet electrostatic precipitators (wet ESPs / WESPs), and regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) control emissions. NESTEC has extensive experience with semiconductor fab exhaust treatment.
SPECIALTY CHEMICAL
The manufacturing of chemicals can generate vent-gas streams and fugitive emissions that must be captured and controlled. NESTEC has extensive experience in the design of emission collection systems including the application of pretreatment particulate removal, the oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the treatment of acid gases.
WOOD PRODUCTS
Wood dryer exhaust from panelboard and wood pellet mills contains volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, particulate matter, hazardous air pollutants, and organic aerosols. Emissions are controlled using wet electrostatic precipitators, regenerative thermal oxidizers, or regenerative catalytic oxidizers. Panelboard press emissions use similar emissions controls.
